Sammy's First Word: 'Supernatural' By Maxandkiz © 2008
They had been staying at Bobby’s place for a few days when it finally happened. “Come on Sammy,” Dean coaxed from his spot on the living room floor, “Say Dean.” Sammy smiled at Dean and gurgled happily. Ignoring the increasing volume of the argument coming from the kitchen, Dean tried again. “Say it Sammy. Say Dean.” Sammy opened his mouth and stuck his thumb in it. The shouting voices suddenly stopped and both men appeared. “Let’s go Dean,” John commanded. At the sound of John’s voice, Sammy stopped sucking his thumb, opened his mouth, and said his first word. “Damn.” Both men stared dumbstruck at baby Sammy who was smiling up at them. After a few seconds of silence, laughter was heard from the back of the room. “He’s your boy alright,” Bobby commented wiping the tears from his eyes. John rounded on Bobby. “You think this is funny, Singer!” Before he could say more, Sammy crawled over to John, raised his arms, and said, “Damn, damn.” John reached down to pick up his baby while Bobby tried unsuccessfully to get his laughter under control. John walked over and deposited Sammy in the playpen before going over to Dean, who looked like a deer caught in the headlights of a semi. “What the hell have you been teaching him, Dean?” John shouted, “I thought I taught you better than that!” “I didn’t teach him that daddy, honest,” Dean pleaded, “I was trying to get him to say Dean. I don’t know where he heard that.” “The boy’s right John,” Bobby chimed in. “If Sammy got that word from anybody it was you. You’re lucky it wasn’t something worse the way you talk around your boys.” Dean glared at Bobby and shouted, “Don’t you talk to my daddy like that! He’s the best daddy in the whole world!” “That’s enough, Dean.” John broke in. “Bobby’s right. I haven’t been very careful around you boys. I’ll try to work on that. Okay?” “Okay, daddy.” Dean replied. John walked over to the playpen and picked up Sammy. “Come on, Sport. It’s time to go home.” Sammy leaned his head on his daddy’s shoulders and said one word before falling asleep. “Dada”.
